A North Penn High School senior and a Pennridge High School senior have each received $20,000 toward their future educations
Firstrust Bank and the Green Family Foundation announced that 18 college- bound students will each receive $20,000 scholarships each, for a total award of $360,000, according to Philadelphia Today.
Tarun Iyengar of North Penn High School, and Mariam Ly, of Pennridge, were two of the 18 lucky recipients.
The students were honored at a celebration at the FIrstrust Bank Club at Lincoln Financial Field recently.
For 55 years, the foundation and Firstrust Bank have awarded scholarships through the Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program for students in the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley regions, per the report.
The scholarship program allots $20,000 to be evenly distributed over a four-year period. Eligible seniors – all 440 of them across the region – had to draft a personal essay on how they will apply their education to the betterment of their communities, by answering, “How will you use your college education to make a substantial impact in your community?”
“When I think about the number of young adults we’ve supported through the Samuel A. Green Scholarship Program, more than 1,000 students, I am amazed by the impact and honored to uphold the legacy of my grandfather and Firstrust’s founder, Samuel A. Green,” said Richard J. Green, Executive Chairman of Firstrust Bank’s Board of Directors and Trustee of the Green Family Foundation.
Per the report, students also each received swag bags with a sweatshirt of the college or university they are attending in the fall and a poster version of their winning essay.
